Q: How can you possibly get my medications for free? This sounds too good to be true.
A: That’s a great question. Let me explain exactly how we do what we do. When the manufacturer sells a medication to a pharmacy like CVS they typically sell the drug to the pharmacy for around 20-30% of the retail cost. So for example if the retail cost of a medication is $100 then the pharmacy would pay around $30 to the drug manufacturer. Now the drug manufacturer would have to pay taxes on that $30 so they would really only get a net profit of around $18 or so. With our advocate program we have agreements with all of the major drug manufacturers to get our members their prescription medications for free. By giving away the drugs for free the manufacturer gets a tax write off for the full retail cost of the drug. As you know these pharmaceutical companies are multi billion dollar companies so the $100 tax write off is much more valuable then a $18 net profit for that particular drug. Does that make sense?
